Disappearing Files And Folders On Windows 10. Table of contents: Check the Users folder. Show hidden files and folders. Switch to your old user account. Search different hard drive partitions for your files. Turn off Fast Startup. Change Indexing options. In some cases, the folder and file names are missing in Windows Explorer. In fact, the folder or file icons appear correctly, but their names are missing. This annoying problem can happen to all or to specific folders without an obvious reason and especially if you have selected the icon view ( View Small, Medium, Large or Extra Large Icons. Quick Fix: My Favorites are missing after Windows 10 upgrade. Okay, here goes. First, open Edge, which is the blue “e” icon on your taskbar. Once Edge is running, click the Hub icon in the upper right corner (3 horizontal lines) and then click the Favorites Settings link (which used to be called “Import Favorites”).

This was one of those head scratchers.Decided to give Windows 10 a spin in business environment. Pretty standard setup - Windows Server 2008R2 domain, Windows 7 clients, users' Desktop, Document and Download folders redirected by Group Policy to a DFS share on a Windows Server 2012. Those redirected folders also have offline mode enabled.Installed Windows 10 on one DELL machine and logged with a test account. To prevent clutter from previous projects being transferred, on a server created new empty structure for redirected folders.Initially everything seemed OK - folders got redirected, all group policies applied correctly.

Then I noticed something very unusual - whenever I create or copy any file to one of the redirected folders (Desktop, Documents, etc.), it immediately disappeared without any traces! Folders were unaffected. My first thought was this must have something to do with offline files or folder redirection. Here are few things I tried:. Re-initiated offline cache. Disabled 'Move contents to new location?' Option in Folder Redirection GP.

Folder disappeared from desktop

Enabled Debug and SynLog for Offline Files Event Viewer - nothing unusual there. Disabled Antivirus on both client and server PCs. Run Process Monitor to see what was happening to these files. This didn't provide many answers either - a file was created,CSC (offline files) process was trying to copy it the CSC cache, but failed because the file was no longer there! That didn't make much sense. To clear my mind I started working on something else and then quickly realized that I had completely forgotten about one important of the setup - all redirected folders were synced to a remote server by DFS Replication. Quickly checked DFS Replication logs on the server and bingo!Event ID 4412 - DFSR - The DFS Replication service detected that a file was changed on multiple servers.

Lost

A conflict resolution algorithm was used to determine the winning file. The loosing file was moved to the Conflict and Deleted folder. It seemed like DFS replication had gone crazy and was deleting all files because of some imaginary conflicts! Surely enough all the deleted files were present in DFS Conflict and Deleted folder.I checked local storage on DFS servers at both sites and realized what had happened. To give the test account a fresh set of redirected folders, I renamed its redirected folders root from test.account to test.account.old, then created an empty test.account folder. This probably totally confused DFS replication - on the remote server test.account.old didn't exist at all and original test.account still had all the data.

Dfsrdiagwas reported that everything was in sync, but it clearly wasn't! Any file created in test.account on the local server was promptly deleted.Anyway, resolution was pretty simple - I deleted all test.account and test.account.old folders from both servers, let DFS to catch up, and then created a new test.account root with redirected folder structure (which was immediately synced to the remote server by DFS).August 2015Windows Server 2008 R2Windows Server 2012Windows 10 Pro.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me tonight. The folder was there, I closed out the Explorer window and 5 minutes later tried to go back to the folder and it was gone. 150GB just gone. I'm currently running a deep scan with the Recuva program fromPiriform.

The quick scan found most of the files, but not all of them. The deep scan has 2 more hours to go. We'll see if it finds everything or not.Even though I found this solution, it doesn't answer as to why Windows 10 just decides to delete an entire folder. The folder that was deleted had also been pinned to Quick Access, which had been an issue as well. On the Quick Access bar, the location ofmy desired folder kept reverting back to C: instead of D. Not a single file was found. I'm missing about 5GB of data. I did not want windows 10. I never wanted to 'upgrade' to 7 from XP! XP was the best op microsoft hasever created, but the corporation has the 'evolution mindset', which imagines falsely that order is created out of chaos - so they continue forcing us to 'upgrade' to their latest confusing os. Every such 'upgrade' is really a downgrade, designed, imo to dumb us down, the same way common core, 'outcome based education', tv, prescriptions, and political correctness are.

It is a table of vomit and filthiness; a mere abomination, highly esteemed of blind men. I had this happen with a coworkers computer. We ordered him a new pc and set it up the day after it arrived. He was using his original pc, when he hit a safe spot she closed and shut everything down.

I then disconnected the original PC and hooked up hisnew one. I then set up his old one at a empty desk so he could transfer his personal files over. Upon booting up one of his person folders were missing the and the other was missing file for the last 2 years. We checked the recycling bin which he had not emptied in 6+ months and found 2 files that were once in the folder that is now missing. As for the rest I am running Recuva and Stellar Phoenix with the hope I can find the missing files.the one that was partial missing was his time cards for the last 2 years while the previous 5 years of time cards were still in the folder.

Windows 10 update

The other folder contained pictures, some private documents, and a few works file. There is not logical reasonfor the file to have vanished. I say him in the folder before he shut down, he did not delete the folder or sub folders. The pc was relocated, booted up and they are gone.
